New Scenarios

VMware turns its attention back to SMEs: a new scenario emerges

Broadcom’s recent statements could signal a change of direction.
For companies, now is the time to reassess their options, starting from concrete data.

After years of strong focus on VMware Cloud Foundation and large organizations, Broadcom appears ready to return to the small and medium-sized enterprise market.

According to Hardware Upgrade, the company has reportedly acknowledged that it may at times have placed too much emphasis on VMware Cloud Foundation and is now working on a new version of vSphere Foundation, designed for organizations that need a virtualization infrastructure without the complexity of a complete private cloud platform.

This is an important signal, although key information is still missing at this stage: availability, pricing, licensing conditions, and the final features of the offering.

A market on the move again

In recent years, the changes introduced following the acquisition of VMware have led many companies to reassess their infrastructure strategies. Some have started migration projects, while others have chosen to wait for greater clarity on how the offering would evolve.

Broadcom’s latest statements now open up a different and potentially broader scenario. VMware could once again become accessible to SMEs through an offering that is better aligned with their needs.

This does not erase what has happened, but it introduces new factors that will need to be carefully assessed. Decisions made on the basis of the conditions of recent years may, in fact, need to be updated in light of the technological and commercial evolution of the market.

What is needed is information, not hasty reactions

Before drawing conclusions, it will be necessary to understand the details of the new offering and assess the impact it could have on companies.

Licensing costs will certainly be important, but they will not be the only factor to consider. Business continuity, security, internal expertise, application compatibility, scalability, and management costs will continue to play a central role.

For this reason, every assessment should start from the company’s actual infrastructure and from a complete analysis of its Total Cost of Ownership, avoiding decisions driven solely by the news of the moment.

Freedom of choice starts with data

VMware’s potential return to the SME market broadens the available opportunities, but it also makes it even more important to assess each scenario carefully.

Because freedom of choice does not simply mean having more alternatives available. It means understanding the real impact of each option on your infrastructure, costs, business continuity, and the company’s future development.

At Var Group Suisse, we support companies with technological expertise, analysis of their existing environment, and concrete figures, without starting from a predetermined answer. The goal is not to point everyone in the same direction, but to give each organization the information it needs to choose the option that best fits its specific requirements.

The market changes, offerings evolve, and new opportunities may emerge. Strategy, however, must remain firmly in the company’s hands.

We don’t tell you what to choose. We give you the options and the real numbers you need to make the decision.

This is freedom of choice.
